The 2026 Convention Season Is Here — And Precinct 575 Needs to Show Up

By Jacovia Cartwright

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity this year. The Texas State Convention is in Houston — right in our backyard. Here's what you need to know and why it matters.

I want to talk to you directly about something that doesn't get enough attention in our neighborhood: the Republican convention process. Because this year, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity — and I don't want Precinct 575 to miss it.

The 2026 Texas Republican State Convention is coming to Houston. The George R. Brown Convention Center. June 11–13. That means the largest grassroots Republican gathering in the entire country is happening right in our backyard, and we have a real shot at sending delegates from this precinct to be part of it.

Why This Year Is Different

Most years, the State Convention is in Dallas or San Antonio. Delegates have to travel, book hotels, take time off work. The cost and the distance keep a lot of good people from participating. But this year? It's here. In Houston. That changes everything for Precinct 575.

I've attended the State Convention as a delegate representing this precinct. I've seen what happens on that floor — the platform debates, the officer elections, the resolutions that shape party policy for the next two years. It is unlike anything else in Texas politics. And I want more of our neighbors to experience it.

Here's How the Process Works

The convention process is a ladder, and it starts right here at the precinct level. If you voted in the Republican Primary on March 3rd — or if you sign an Oath of Affiliation at the Precinct Convention — you are eligible to participate.

Step 1: The Precinct Convention — March 7, 2026. This is where it all begins. After the polls close, we gather at Spring Baptist Church (633 E. Louetta Rd., Spring, TX 77373) starting at 8:00 AM. We approve delegates to the Senate District Convention and vote on resolutions. If you show up and want to be a delegate, you can be elected right there on the spot. It takes a couple of hours and it is one of the most direct ways to participate in the Republican Party.

Step 2: The Senate District Convention — March 28, 2026. Delegates elected at the precinct level advance here. We debate and vote on resolutions from precinct conventions, and elect delegates to the State Convention. This is where Precinct 575's voice gets amplified across our entire Senate District.

Step 3: The Texas State Convention — June 11–13, 2026. Houston. George R. Brown Convention Center. This is the big one. Delegates from every precinct in Texas gather to adopt the party platform, set legislative priorities, elect the State Chairman and the State Republican Executive Committee, and debate the resolutions that have worked their way up from the grassroots. 9,000 Republicans in one room. And this year, we can walk there.

What's Actually at Stake

I know some people think conventions are just political theater. I used to hear that. But after attending one, I can tell you — it's the opposite. The platform that gets adopted at the State Convention is the document that defines what the Republican Party of Texas stands for. The SREC members elected at the convention are the governing body of the entire party. The resolutions that pass can become official party positions that influence legislation.

When Precinct 575 doesn't send delegates, we don't have a voice in any of that. When we do send delegates, we do. It's that simple.

What I'm Asking You to Do

I'm not asking for much. I'm asking you to show up on March 7th. Come to the Precinct Convention at Spring Baptist Church. Bring a neighbor. Sign in. If you want to be a delegate, raise your hand. I will be there, and I will make sure you know exactly what to do.

If you want to go all the way to the State Convention in June, I want to help you get there. Sign up on the Get Involved page as a Delegate Candidate and I will personally walk you through every step of the process.

Precinct 575 is building something real. This convention season is our first big test. Let's show Harris County what this precinct can do.
